Touring Designs by PBK

Three Prairie View students given the opportunity to visit new schools in the Katy area designed by PBK.

We had the opportunity to tour a recent development by PBK Architects. The development is three Katy ISD schools built all within the same vicinity of each other.

The first school toured was Catherine Bethke Elementary School which at the time was being opened weeks after our arrival. The school featured many well thought out ideas to create a new style of learning. This was achieved by creating a moving library that opens up to the outside and commons area. The library stacks are also movable, giving the children a new library configuration every week. The classes are designed so that the teacher moves throughout the class instead of sitting at a desk. Each cell of the building is given to a different class group with their own break out space for story time and other events.

We next school we visited was Stockdick Junior High. This school was far enough along in the construction process for us to view it. PBK takes extreme care in their design of these schools. The image on the right are of Stockdick's canyon steps. The steps are designed for meeting and learning.

We could not visit the high school because it was not far enough along in the construction process.
